Professional certification has long been a global standard for ensuring that professionals meet best practices through knowledge and experience. While some industries in Tanzania, such as medicine and accounting, require certification, HR has not traditionally mandated it.
However, earning an HR certification is a powerful way to demonstrate professionalism, enhance career prospects, and stand out in the industry—especially as HR certification remains uncommon in Tanzania. A globally recognized credential can open doors to international opportunities, increase credibility with local employers, and contribute to the efficiency and strategic value of HR in organizations. Certified professionals often command higher salaries due to the added expertise they bring.
To support HR professionals in achieving this milestone, Epvate & Fortune International Consulting has partnered with the HR Certification Institute (HRCI) to offer accessible and affordable certification options.
With over 40 years of credentialing excellence, HRCI offers certifications for HR and non-HR professionals focused on workplace risk, performance, and results. Founded in 1976 in the USA, HRCI has certified over 500,000 professionals in 125+ countries, earning global recognition and employer trust.
Epvate & Fortune sought an HR certification partner with an uncompromised commitment to credentialing. HRCI’s non-profit model, global recognition, and strong accreditation made it the ideal choice. HRCI has certified more HR professionals than any other body, spanning 125+ countries and shaping standards based on global practice. It is also the only HR certification organization recognized by the NCAA. Notably, 93% of Fortune 500 companies employ HRCI-certified professionals—proof of its strong credibility.
To uphold rigorous standards, HRCI certifications are accredited by independent organizations overseeing global best practices. The PHRi™, SPHRi™, and GPHR® are accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), which accredits over 300 programs across various industries. The aPHRi™ also meets NCCA’s high standards.Additionally, the PHRi and SPHRi hold accreditation from the International Accreditation Service (IAS), ensuring compliance with the globally recognized ISO/IEC 17024 standard.
We offer certifications for every level of HR Professionals, and non-HR Professionals who practice HR Functions. These levels can be grouped into 3 levels: Foundational, Professional, and Strategic. Typically, certification accounts for 3 Es: Education, Experience, and Examination. Our rigorous exams are primarily experience-based (except aPHRi). Candidates must meet certain requirements before they can take these exams and for those taking SPHRi, documented knowledge of local employment law is required. The levels and credentials with their eligibility requirements are outlined below:

Certification is a credential, not a course, based on Education, Experience, and Examination. If you meet the requirements, you can take the exam anytime within HRCI’s 180-day window after approval—no course needed. Previously, professionals had to travel abroad at high costs to take the exams. Epvate & Fortune has now facilitated an HRCI testing center in Dar es Salaam, allowing local professionals to take exams conveniently and at discounted rates.
Epvate & Fortune offers comprehensive HR Certification Preparation, including online study materials, virtual review sessions, need-based face-to-face sessions, and practice exams. Candidates receive continuous support through virtual access to facilitators and peer discussions via WhatsApp. Study materials are available 24/7 on any device via myEducator LMS, including an audiobook format. Additionally, printed materials of over 600 pages can be shipped upon request at an extra cost.
Taking the exam requires registration and submitting details of your experience to meet eligibility criteria. Once your application is received, you have 180 days to schedule your exam date. The exam duration ranges from 2 to 3.5 hours, depending on the credential you are pursuing. Epvate & Fortune provides support and guidance throughout the process until the examination date. Exams are conducted at approved Pearson VUE centers on a computer under physical invigilation, with further guidelines provided to registered candidates.
After finishing your exam, you will promptly receive your score. The total score is 700 points, and the pass mark is 500 points. Within 24-48 hours you will also receive a detailed report of how you did in the assessment.
If you pass the exam, you will receive a digital badge for your credential, which cannot be faked and can be added to your CV or social media, linking to the HRCI website for verification. You will also be allowed to use the credential acronyms after your name, such as John Doe, SPHRi or Jane Doe, GPHR, making it a recognized professional statement. All certified professionals are listed in HRCI’s global HR Professionals Database and connected to a worldwide network. To prevent fraud, HRCI does not allow local printing of certificates; hard copies must be ordered from the USA at an extra cost, with Epvate & Fortune facilitating the process.
Compared with certificate programs or diploma, certification has three main advantages:
Global certification is meant to demonstrate that a particular professional, regardless of where they are in the world, they understand general best practices which are standard across the world. Think of it as ISO standards which organizations all across the world seek to meet. In the past 40+ years, hundreds of professionals from Africa have pursued and benefited from HRCI credentials.
To make the certification more affordable, we allow interested candidates to make payments in installments. The first installment must be 50% of the total amount, and the remaining amount should be completed before the candidate can sit for the exam.
The exams are taken physically at an approved Pearson VUE center in Dar es Salaam. More details will be shared with those who enroll.
An HRCI certification:
Yes. As an associate professional, aPHRi (Associate Professional in Human Resources – International) is meant for people who are not practicing HR but are transitioning into HR or doing some typical HR functions.
Yes. As an associate professional, as a foundational, knowledge-based credential, aPHRi (Associate Professional in Human Resources – International) is meant for people who are beginning their career in HR and do not have any experience yet.
HRCI certification is distinguished from other certifications in several ways, including
comprehensiveness of the assessments which gives you more credibility, as well as HRCI’s credibility in the market. Reach out to Epvate & Fortune for specific advice on this.
As long as you meet eligibility requirements you can pursue any certification. Several people look into the future and would like to get credentials that give them a boost in pursuing the next step of their career. It is, however, possible to begin with PHRi to cover the roles you have been doing, then pursue SPHRi a few years later.
If you don’t pass the exam, you will have to wait 90 days before you can retake the exam. You will go have to pay the same exam costs before you can sit for the exam. The preparation course/program from Epvate & Fortune is not mandatory if you are retaking an exam and have already gone through the program.
HRCI also offers an insurance of $250 which is payable before the exam. This insurance allows you to take the exam without paying the examination fee.
